Here it is the story

A week ago while running on ocean a hose loose , I did installed back and keep running without problem .

Next day replace the muff for a new one and flush engine with not problem apparently

A week after , turn water and engine on driveway but after 5 min temp went high

Impeller was burn and rip in pieces

Get a new one , even new T-stat , but after replaced I was uncomfortable so disconnected the hose going to the T-stat and start engine , after 5or 6 sec water show up but it was like water and air ( I don't know how to explain ) .

I did put the hose back and start engine again , Temperature was fine but just a little amount of water came out from exhaust .

What you guys think is the reason

something from the old impeller is clogging a pass
or
muff is defective and not enough water reach the pump .

By the way how much water should you see on the exhaust . I can say it was only a mist mixed with the combustion gasses

Thank you in advance for your answer :D

Did you find ALL the old impeller pieces? If not that is your problem.

It is important you piece the impeller back together and find ALL the pieces.
First places to look are the around the intake ports in the lower and the heat exchanger.

Also did you just replace the impeller or did you take a good look at the housing, top and bottom, to make sure it is not melted?

What year and model of drive? The drive model makes a difference on what to check regarding the raw water pickup plumbing and problems thereof.

To be honest with you I didn't check for the old impeller pieces but if it clog something was the exhaust cause the engine is working around the 170 which seem fine . Yes I did check the pump and everything seem normal . In fact O-ring and gaskets were fine . I will start today again and blow air tru the hose that conect to the exhaust and see what happen . I did check the T-stat and the hoses plus the Power st cooler and none of them was clogged .
Thank you for your help I will check to see if can find the pieces

The water and a lot of the exhaust is going to exit out the exhaust relief ports which is near the transom.

I think that is what you are describing.

170 is a little high. best thing to do is get anIR temp gun and shoot where the temp sender is to see what you are actually running at. While youare at it, measure the exhaust risers. They will be around 150 or so at idle.

WOW guys I can see you know a lot ..... Thank you for the recommendations I just start the engine again ... After one hour checking the PDF manual and examination on the drive I realize what you describe as exhaust relief ports .

Ok lets start from the begging

As I said I did replace the muff and believe me all problems start with this change ...

Muff problem : muff hole very tiny

Solution : Drill with big bit tru the hole to make this bigger

Results : 155 on idle ... Lots of water on the well called relief port ...and touchable exhaust ( I will guess around 120 ) . So I guess everything will be fine from now...

So at the end a bad muff cost me a new impeller , a new T-stat , and lots of hours of learning ... Not bad for a novice ...

Thanks guys for your advise .... Best Regards Carlos

AH by the way I blow air tru the hose connected to the exhaust intake and was not clogged at all

Thanks again
