Looking for alternates to the VP belt. Chasing a squeal, all bearings feel good, everything is clean, current VP belt is about 2 years old and squeals after warm-up under all load conditions. Tensioner is 2 years old and in good shape per the markings on the housing.

Suggestions?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... Go buy a bar of Lava hand soap,.....

Start yer motor,....
Rub the bar of Lava soap against the belt, inside, 'n out,....
Ya ain't even gota peel the paper wrapper off, just rub the belt with it,... the belt will peel the necessary spot,...

Just be very Careful keepin' yer fingers outa the belt, 'n pulleys,....

It's gotta be Lava hand bar soap, no other will do,....

I've got a bar in every toolbox I own,....
The side benefit of the tool, is ya can wash yer hands with it,....

Belt and tensioner are OEM from marine parts express I think. Current and spare belt are both VP with the part number called out in the reply. The issue developed after a minor over temp event 2 years ago. The impeller shed all its vanes after the engine suffered a run on during shut down. I assume it spun the crank backwards, or attempted to and wrecked the impeller. I replaced the impeller and flushed the system. I corrected the run on issue and the engine has Been fine ever since, except for the belt squeal that developed shortly after the impeller deal.

I like the lava soap idea, but will that cause belt slippage? I can certainly try it to save a weekend on the lake but would prefer to understand the cause.

Thanks for the replies, you've helped me recall how I got to this point.

Any suggestions on possible root causes now that I've shared the sequence of events. Engine has been flawless until the run on developed. That was corrected with better gas, sea foam treatment and a tune up.

If all the parts are in good shape I don't see how it would slip. compare the grooves in one pulley to the others, they to well wear

Could take the old belt to an auto store and find one a slight bit shorter, would be much cheaper at any rate
