Re: Vortec Intake

Hey Bondo......no disadvantage in going with the GM? I don't know what those plugs are either....

Guess I just kinda like the idea of keeping it GM and the thought of a "high rise".

vettman.....Dennis Moore authored a book titled: "Small Block Chevy Marine Performance". I got a copy from my local library......it's good reading....

So FreeBeeTony, does this mean you might get your boat up and running before next spring?! I've been following your progress and interested in your results!
That book by Dennis Moore is hard to find, my library didn't have it and a waiting list of 4 at Amazon.com I was lucky to find a copy on E-bay a while back.

I've got that article from boating magazine you mentioned and will do the same to my 5.0 Vortec that is now a 2 barrel. Volvo was kind enough to sit my -2- on a 4 barrel high rise. Going with the holley 600 marine. Manifold is Performer RPM with VOLVO name.
Dennis Moore's book (mentioned above), is great reference for anyone with a small-block chevy boat, who wants to do any mods to it. Even if you would just like to know more about you engine, it is an interesting read. Good history of the changes over the years. It has been out of print for awhile, and getting harder and harder to find. I was lucky to get a new one off ebay, last year. The book is starting to get dated, in some areas. Hopefully, Dennis will do a revision. MPI and EFI are not covered. For your carbed engine, it would be a good info.

Given your volvo intake, you can't beat the hp for $!!! I believe you will get near the EFI version of that engines hp, just not the efficiency (250?). Don't expect to get that bang for the buck, in other mods. Most of the time, you spend lots of $$$ to get just a little gain. If you are propped correctly now, expect to get a larger pitch prop to enjoy the added top end.

I think you will find that the GM vortec intakes are made for GM by edelbrock.
When I was looking for a TBI to vortec intake for my old suburban I called edelbrocks advice line and asked them if they made a TBI intake for vortec heads, and the tech guy informed me that yes they do make it but they do not sell it. They are marketed by GM performance parts along with the GM vortec Dual plane The LT-1 carb conversion manifold and a few others. I was shocked.
I would buy the edelbrock considering the price of both.

Thanks for all the input........believe it or not I am probably going to order the GM. Just seem partial to keeping it GM and the thought of the high-rise.
