Hi everyone, I recently bought a 95 wellcraft excel. It has a Volvo 230 engine (orange) think it's a 2.3L Here is the deal, person I bought from said it sat for six years, gauge reads 210 hours. Engine was froze up when I got it, after a week and mystery oil I got it freed up, drained stale gas, replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, coil, points (gap at 19 ???), dipped carb and rebuilt, and new timing belt. engine sounds like it wants to start but won't, getting good spark, and fuel. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks, Don S

If the boat is a 1995, I wouldn't expect it to have points. Can you clarify the year and model of the motor?

If it's 230, I don't think it has a choke so it can be tricky to start. You need to pump it a couple times and leave the throttle at 1/4 open.

Re: Volvo won't start

The boat is a 95 don't know what year the engine is. Was told when I bought the boat it was a 2.3L When I pulled the engine it has 230B stamped in the block. I have no manual or any other info about it.I will get the serial # off it today if it helps will also do compression test, to nsure strong enough compression. When I try to start it I only see fuel coming from candy cane shaped pipe, even when I pump the gas, is that normal???

Has no compression in 1,2,& 4 thinking rings are stuck to piston, but wouldnt I at least get some reading? I don't even feel air when I pull the gauge off the hose Zero compression!

You probably have valves stuck open as well. You really need to pull the head and evaluate what you have. Stuck engines seldom last very long even after you get them freed up.
