Volvo - what year were major changes?

Can anyone provide insight or a link to where I can determine by model year major design changes to the Volvo engine and/or out drive? I am considering a 4.3L from a 2001 Larson bowrider and want to know if there is anything major prior-to and right-after the year 2001. thanks.

Other than changing from Gray engines back to Red engines, nope, no major changes.

Are there any common problem areas I should look for in this 2001 motor / drive? I will doing a compression test and reviewing the service documents.

No, there aren't any real problems with that engine. Merc and Volvo both use it, it works fine.
Is this engine carbed or MPI?
Do you have the serial number of the engine, I could check for past problems.
