I'm rounding up the parts to reseal the upper gearbox (280 leg ) and I'm getting conflicting answears, the local parts people said that I really don't have to replace the yoke screw, if it's not damaged, but the shop manuals say I should, ( my feeling is that when you tighten the screw you'll stretch it, and you don't want to use it again )and to add to the issue , Volvo has that screw on back order, with no shipping date ... my supplier say's they can't get an answear ... as to a ship date

I NEVER reuse that screw, have seen the outcome when they break. It costs a lot of money to replace a complete drive when that screw head breaks off.
I think you might also want to find another supplier. I just checked Volvo on the availablity of the screw, and there is no back order for it. It's available.
The number for that screw is 851293. You might even check out dougrussell.com, I would bet they have them.

does your 280 use a crush sleeve? most did and if it has a crush sleeve it cannot be reused either.
but never ever reuse that bolt, like DonS I have sen what happens when it breaks and its not pretty.
