Volvo u-joint question

I am pricing out some parts for my 3.0 GS Volvo with a SX-CT outdrive and I am just wondering if the u-joints are separately replaceable or if I have to buy the complete assembly? My local dealer has priced me out an assembly at $375 and I am just wondering if I could get by with only replacing the u-joints themselves. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jamie

Re: Volvo u-joint question

I did mine for around 28 bucks in parts, the ujoints are a spicer model. I think Don has a PN for them

Re: Volvo u-joint question

If I could get a spicer number for the u-joints I think that would be great. As long as they are an exact match.

Volvo used 2 styles on those engines. Do yours have the inside keepers or the outside keepers.
The inside keepers are C shaped. and go inside the yokes.
The outside keepser are on the ouside of the ujoint caps and requires pin type snap ring pliars.

Re: Volvo u-joint question

I have not owned the boat long enough to take it apart yet. So I can't answer that question. It is a 1995 model if that would help at all. Can you get both of those styles from a spicer dealer? Also is there a prefered manufacturer for the Gimbal bearing or should I just buy a volvo replacement?

thanks for the help!

Ayuh,.........

Volvo Don't make them Either,........

Why pay an Extra Middleman.............

The u-joints are either 18-2104, or 18-2174...... they're Rockwells.......
The Gimbel Bearing is 18-2100,...... it's a Link-Belt.......

The Part #s are Sierra,....... Available here at iboats ,..... Or your local Napa......
