Volvo trim guage not working

Hi - <br />I have a 99 Volvo 5.7 duo prop I/O.<br />When I use the ***/trim, the drive goes up and down but the guage doesn't work. Is there a sensor I need to check? I just got done painting the ourdrive. Is it possible I could have painted the sensor?<br /><br />The boat transport company is coming at 2:00 tomorrow and I'd really like to get this fixed before it goes in the water <br /><br />Thanks<br />Paul

If it is the American style Volvo that was based on the OMC Cobra the trim sender is inside the starbord side of the transom housing, if you push the drive all the way to the port side facing it you can look in and see it, it is a black disc with wires connected to it. Painting the drive probably did not affect it, they have to be replaced every so often. Threading the wires through the transom is the tricky part. I had the shop do mine!

Found it.<br />One of the wires is broken. I'm going to try sodering in a splice. <br />Thanks for the quick reply.

Or an easier way might be to use marine grade crimp on terminals sealed with liquid electrical tape.

I have a 1996 Four Winns 4.3L GL Volvo Penta with VP SX drive unit. My trim gauge has stopped working and I noticed that a white wire has seperated along the harness that goes from transom wall to sender unit. I want to know if this wire can be repaired? If so what is the best procedure to access this wire. I believe its a ground wire.
