Volvo transom thickness?

I was going to just laminate 2 - 3/4" layers of marine ply for rebuilding the transom for supporting the Volvo 130Q/280 outdrive combination. Now I'm seeing conflicting posts. I say one with specs (from Don) for Mercruiser that specified between 2" and 2 1/4".

Anyone know the minimum recommended for Volvo. I won't be doing it wrong if I go with 3 - 3/4" laminations but would like to know if someone has something official.

I moved this to the I/O forum because your question is specific to Volvo. I believe the Merc and Volvo spec will be the same though as many boatbuilders offer both even after the hull has been made . . .

Ah ... that certainly makes sense. I don't know where I got the idea that two, 3/4" thicknesses were suitable. Glad I was browsing the forums when I came across some of the other posts.

Ayuh,... Ideally,... You want to be at 2", After the wood, fiberglass etc....
2" is the Minimum,+ 2, 1/4" is te Maximum....

Click here for the Volvo template for making the cutout. It also shows the transom dimensions which are 1 3/4 to 2 1/4.
The 290 style drives weren't critical about parallellism, and flatness, as there is no inner transom plate

Ayuh,... What I do is to cut a Plug out of the donor boat transom,+ build it into the transom of the project hull...
