No, a 280 will not hook up to the trim cylinders. Takes a whole different setup for that 290 or SP/DP A or B model transom shield. You would need an intermediate housing with the H steering fork with the stainless brackes that go around the cylinders. It also has to incorporate the lockdown mechanism.
The problem is, I am sure you can use a 280 upper and lower gear case on a 290 intermediate housing. As long as the upper has the 2 bolt helmet pin.
The SP/DP A or B drives have different bearings in the upper and can't be used with a 280 upper. The lower can be interchanged with about any of them.
