Hey guys

Have a quick question. 1992 Chaparral 25' Bow Rider. 350 with Volvo outdrive of the dual prop variety. Boat has never had a trailer as long as my cousin has had it. Just acquired a trailer for it and tried to load it. Called and said it fit the bunks well but the drive would drag on the ramp when trying to pull out. He says there is a "trim" switch on one side of throttle and a "tilt" switch on the other side. The trim switch he said works but nothing on the tilt switch.

I'll probably be going next weekend to take a look at it and didn't want to go in completely blind. Do these have a limiter snding unit like the Mercs? If so can you get around it by jumping the two wires like on a Merc. If not what am I up against with this setup? Do the Tilt and Trim switches work like the tilt and trailer buttons on a Merc?

Thanks
Lawrence

Re: Volvo Tilt / Trim

Really hard to give an exact answer without knowing what model drive or engine you have there, and No, the switches do not work like Merc.
On the Volvo's, normally the trailer button is only an override button to go above the trim area.
To raise the drive full up, you trim up as far as it will go, then hit the over ride button AND the trim up button to bring the drive on up.
There are relays all over the place on Volvo trim and different types of trim setups. But if all else fails, just unplug the trim pump motor. To raise the drive, hook the blue wire from the motor to 12V positive and the green to negative and the drive should raise, turn the wires around to go down.

Re: Volvo Tilt / Trim

I have a 93 chaparral with the exact same set up, and I did the same thing (drag the skeg) the first time I trailered it after buying it, and didn't find out till I got it home that I had to hold BOTH the tilt up and trim up buttons at the SAME time to raise the unit (not limit switch), and just the trim down button to lower the unit. I've had it looked at, asked here, and NOBODY has come up with a solution yet. My marina mechanic says that's the way Volvo says it works, but I don't buy that one yet;) If you find a solution, PLEASE DO let me/us know, thanks! I have a picture of my throttle control, but haven't been able to figure a way to load it here.

Thanks a ton Don.

Called cousin and gave him the scoop on how the twin switches operate and he called his father in law who lives at the lake house where the boat is. He walked down to the boat and gave it a try and said it worked just fine.

Really appreciate the help and so fast to.

Lawrence
