Picked up the new boat this week (204 SSi 5.0 GXi SX drive). During on-water checkout, the trim gauge stayed in full up posiion. Dealer rep and I both assumed that sending unit needed adjustment but did not have wrench that fit sending unit bolt. Dealer rep suggested returning it to shop for repair, but due to scheduling I won't be able to get it to the dealer until later next week.
Since I am fairly technical, I checked the adjustment last night and it seemed to make no difference within the bolt adjustment range. I then removed the sending unit and turned by hand. I could get the gauge to go to full down at the far end of the sending unit range, but any movement in the up direction brought gauge to full up.
I am trying to order service manuals, but they will be a few weeks. Do any of you have the resistance ranges that the sending unit should send secondly, I did not look well, but how difficult is it to route the wire through the outdrive into the engine compartment for replacement?
If not too difficult or requiring special tools, I would rather have the dealer rep drop of the sending unit and replace myself (they are willing to do this if I desire).
Thanks, Jan "Yawn"
