I have a 1998 Caravelle 188 with a 4.3GL w/SX drive. The trim switch on the throttle had been getting gettin weak and last trip out the trim must have stayed on so long it tripped the 40amp breaker. So I bought a new switch and replaced it. Very easy job other than working with the short wires and getting them soldered.
The trim switch now works great engaging and disengaging trim up and down. The problem is if I trim all at once the motor will quit. After a short time, I suspect a cool down period, it will start working again. If I trim in increments it is fine. This was one of the symptoms not fixed by replacing the switch on the throttle.
Fluid level is fine and does not appear milky.
All connections are good.
I suspect the motor is going bad...and I helped it along by not replacing the switch sooner.
What would you all check next? Is the motor the next thing to check?
Thanks!
