Volvo SX to Mercruiser 1 conversion

I wold like to know if I can put a Mercruiser inline 6 with a mercruiser one outdrive in a skipjack 24' that had a volvo SX outdrive. Will I have to have the hole filled and then recut?

Im getting the skipjack 24 hull for free (no engine, no outdrive)

Merc, volvos starting with the SX series and OMC cobras all have the same cutout in the transom.

Exception: Alpha GenII's and all bravo drives require an additional two bolt holes, but the rest of the cutout is the same.

Sir: thats really not enough motor for that hull.

However it was not your question, thats why i hesitated to post.

What is a good motor for the hull? One that I can use my outdrive (NEW)

What type of outdrive a pre - alpha? MC-1? New? It's going to depend on your gear ratio. Do you have that info?

A 24' boat is going to realistically take a 5.7L engine along with the proper gear ratio in the outdrive, to have any kind of resonable performance. That inline 6 won't even get it to plane.

What was in it to begin with, then we can go from there.

But a fresh water 5.7 would do nicely. Cheapest way is to get a freshwater boat with a bad hull and transfer everything over.

That way you don't get nickel and dime to death.

5.7's all over, 300 hp / 7.4 not so many and reasonable.

Than a bravo 1. With the big block.

But who wants to sink that kinda money into this hull?

Nows the time to get the best deal.

He's got a new drive and a Skipjack is a nice hull, not sure what the problem is ??? I agree, he needs some horsepower, but anything over 200 ought to plane her if that's all he's looking for (20 MPH) per other thread . . . She'll run over 30 with a small block.

Hmmm,...

A hull such as That,... Atleast deserves a SBC,+ an Alpha 1, Gen.II.....
It would almost be a Sin to put that I6, Mod.1 in it...

I really like the 25 Sport Cruiser,...
It looks similar to the Old Town, Atlantis...
