I have a 2000 Wellcraft 22 WA w/ Volvo 5.0GL and SX-M outdrive. I took it to reputable boatyard to have the outdrive serviced because I had no record of when or if this had been done previously. They basically replaced everything; bellows, hoses, o-rings, seals, etc. as well the shift and trottle cables. When I picked the boat up I did not have time to do a proper sea trial so it was just a short run at slow speed back to the slip. But I did notice that the trottle behaved a lot differently than what I was used to. I now have to move the control lever 2-3 inches after engaging in gear (forward or reverse) before I get any reaction from the trottle. Before the cables were replaced there was immediate reaction from the trottle after engaging.
When I called the boatyard to ask about this they said that was the way it was supposed to be and that the old cables were stretched out which is why the trottle used to react immediately. They also said that there was only one possible way to install the cables and there are no adjustments that can be made so it MUST be right. Then I went back and looked at the work order and noticed that the technician had noted that he had modify the trottle cable to get it to fit. Does this sound right to you knowledgable folks? I don't know whether to just try to adjust to it the way it is, but it's a lot more to difficult to manuver in tight spaces. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
