Volvo SX penta drive

Is it a must to pull off the Sx drive to lubricate, or can everything be lubed done thru the grease fittings?

It is necessary to pull the drive in order to grease the ujoints on the drive shaft. The Four Winns service center where I used to take my boat said that this should be done every other year. I stuck with this schedule and have not had any problems (knock on wood) for the past eleven years.

You have to pull the drive to grease the u-joints and the drives input shaft splines. While your there check engine alignment, bellows condition, and gimble bearing condition. Do this every other year or 100 hours of service, which ever comes first.
