Volvo SX drive oil?

...I'm changing the oil in my Volvo Penta SX ct-1 drive. Unfortunately there are no volvo dealers in my area only mercruiser. Is it okay to use the mercruiser synthetic drive oil [green in color] in my SX .

P.S. drive is 1998 vintage.

Lots of places use it with no problems. Never tried it personally, so can't give any personal findings.

I am with DonS, never tried it just heard about it.
Mobil makes a synthetic GL-5 gear oil that is a suitable subsitute as well.
try a local oil distribution place.
it just must meet the GL-5 specification.
