Hi everyone,
So, I took the boat out of storage and dewinterized it (2002 Campion 18' w/Volvo 4.3GL) in the driveway. Problem was I let my buddy help me and there was a slight problem....
Flushed the antifreeze out and then put her all back together. No problem. Started first try on the muffs. No problem. Ran for about half an hour perfectly. No problem.
Fuel it up with premium and take it to the lake. Launch it. Start it. Problem. Overheat alarm goes off, so I head for shore. Engine ran for about 30 seconds before I shut it down. Said to hell with it and parked it for the night. Gauge never climbed over the top.
Next morning, me and the super-mechanic take it out and try to run it. Starts perfectly and runs for about 30 seconds before alarm goes off again and smoke starts to come from the rear of the engine compartment. Take her to shore and check the engine out. Ends up that genius-boy reversed the intake/exhaust hoses at the impeller. We get the engine cooled by manually flushing lake water through it. Waited about 45 minutes and tried to fire her again. Starts first go and then sputters, diesels and dies. Choke the throttle and it tries real hard but won't go. Engine spins freely, but can't smell any fuel.
Back on the driveway, I pull the plugs...no water. Oil is spotless. Put the muffs back on, engine spins but won't fire. I've got the Volvo manuals, but they don't say much in the way of troubleshooting. Kill switch is fine.
Anyone got any great ideas (other than not letting super-mechanic touch it again)? I'll spend the money at the local shop if necessary, just want to find out if there's some kind of circuit protection or fuel cutoff in case of overheat that isn't listed in the books.
Thanks in advance,
Greg
