i have a beretta ss and it has a volvo aq131d with a sp outdrive and i just changed the spark plugs and wires and now it is running bad it will idle fine and rev fine when not in gear. when you put it in gear it idles fine but you go to plane off and it will not all it will do is go about 2000 rpm and then it starts backfiring through the carb.

Are you sure you have the plug wires in the proper location? Did you use the proper plugs and gap them correctly? During your changing plugs and wires, did you change the points and condenser, cap, rotor, or do anything else?

not sure on the wires in right location to the distibuter
i think but the book shows 1234 then it shows 1342 how do i now where the 1 is on the distributer cap and the plugs are the ones i got from volvo dealer for it. but no i did not change the condenser or cap and rotor or the points it did fine last year then i wanted to change the plugs just to be on the good side and when i did i broke one of the wires so i had to buy them to thanks alot don for the help this is so agravating.

Let me guess, you have a Clymers manual right?

You need to get your engine so number 1 cylinder is on TDC on the compression stroke.
Then remove the distributor cap and look where the rotor is pointed. From there the firing order is 1342

would the boat run fine when in nuetral but do the backfireing under a load i mean it revs to 5 grand in nuetral just fine but you put in gear it wont rev that high.
sorry so confusing
