I have a 1985 volvo penta 280, experienced some vibration this season also on a turn sound changes to almost a grind, hard to discribe, is there a gimble bearing in that unit or could it be a universal joint, any help appreciated.

Technically, it's not called a gimbal bearing on VP's, it's a support bearing. But yes, there is a bearing and there is 2 uni joints.

You have wornout uni-joints.

And probably all caused by water in the bellows. If there is (or was) water in the bellows there are also some other things to check for.
