volvo penta transom assemblies replaced?

supposed to go look at a 2000 Four Winns 298 this week and they said both transom assemblies had just been replaced? do these go bad? is this a sign of bigger issues? or is it a good thing that they are new now? they are volvo pentas but no idea exactly which drives they are yet.

Those will have sx drives or dp-sm if duoprop.

Salt water use?
IF?? both go bad?? RUN?
​There could be a small electrical "leak" and it ate the transom assy.
​Or the pier where it's docked could have an electrical problem and it ate the assy??

no idea. doubt it is salt water related cause we are far from salt water but that doesn't mean it hasn't been moved
