volvo penta tilt/ trim

my father just purchased a 1988 imperial with the volvo duo prop. after we took it out for a ride we have found that the drive keeps dropping. it raises and lowers with no problem but will not stay up. it doesnt drop fast but does make it's way down right after it is raised. any help or diretion on replacement would be of great help. thnx, scott

It is most likely the check valve inside the hydraulic pump. I had the exact same problem with a volvo 290. You have to determine which model you need to replace. I beleive you can find both replacements at epower.com. They were $100 cheaper than anyone else i found. If you want you can email me at leibin81@yahoo.com for further Qs.
