volvo penta tilt problem

Hello
My boat is a 86 bayliner with the 4 cylinder volvo engine. Over the last 2 weeks the tilt on the motor does not work when in the water. If I use it on the trailer it works fine but in the water it will go down but will not come up.

Also if I lift the outdrive up manually , then the tilt will work the rest of the way. I've ruined 2 props in shallow water. Please help. I'm sure it is a minor fix but what is it. I've also checked the fluid/oil and that is fine.
Thanks in advance

Will the drive come up when in neutral and in the water?

No it will not. It will not come up in the water at all without a little manual lift. It was working fine 2 weeks ago.

Re: volvo penta tilt problem

One of my wires were pinched in the throttle lever lats year and that prevented me from getting the drive up.

Just a thought.

I am having a similar issue with my volvo penta 275 sterndrive. Trimming up or down will work as long as you don't lower or lift it all the way to the top or bottom. Its like it gets stuck and you have to give it a little nudge to get it going again. I can't figure it out either.
