I have a volvo engine on a 1998 Four Winns 240 - it's a 7.4Gi. I tried to replace the thermostat today but found that the right rear bolt on the thermostat housing was not accessible with either a wrench or socket. It seems that the intake manifold needs to be removed to get to it, but I hope that's not the case. Anyone have experience getting this bolt off?

Also - I couldn't get the flame arrestor off either - the exhaust housing was too close to the flame arrestor to get it off. Does anyone know how to get this off without taking the exhaust housing off/loose? I know there's a gasket on the exhaust housing and I don't want to loosen this and then need to replace the gasket.

Thanks for the help.

No, you do not have to pull the manifold. The thermostat housing should be open to the access. Got any pictures showing why you can't get to it?
Yes, the flame arrestor is a tight fit ................... FORCE is needed.
