I purchase a replacement THERMOSTAT HOUSING 3589553 for my 5.0 Volvo Penta. It does not have a flange for the thermostat to set against or the place for for the o-ring to sit against when installed. Am I missing something or did I get a defective part?

Re: Volvo Penta Thermostat Housing

You might want to add some engine info, since I doubt anyone here knows what a 3589553 thermostat housing looks like or goes to.
Full model numbers, year, SN all help.

That is a supersceded number, but the thermostat number did not change.
Got some pictures to compare the two, you shouldn't need to change to a different size thermostat.
