Hello all, hopefully someone here can help me. I have a 1999 4.3 Litre V6 Volvo Penta, with an SX-M outdrive with a 1.79 gear ratio. Unfortunately I have damaged the skeg & need to replace the lower gearcase, the drive itself still works fine though. I live in Australia & secondhand parts here are non existent so I need to import from the U.S.
So far I have been able to find some secondhand gearcases on the net, but none with the same gear ratio as mine.
From a manufacturers point of view I would presume that the gearcases of similar models {ie- as in my case 1992-2003} would all be the same outer casing with the internal gear ratio`s being different. And I was wondering if anyone here could confirm whether this is correct for me, as I could then buy an appropriate model gearcase even if the gear ratio is different & have my current internal parts fitted to it.
Thankyou in advance for any help you can provide to me. Regards Jeremy.

How bad is your skeg damaged? They sell a replacement that can go right over your damaged unit(unless it's too gone).

Thanks for the info Jerry. I didn`t know they existed until I checked the net after reading your post, they`re certainly not available here,i`ll definitely be putting one on my next skeg. Unfortunately though, my current skeg is both damaged & bent so probably isn`t a suitable fix this time, but thanks anyway.
