Hi
My friend has a Regal 258 with a Volvo Penta. its not the original Engine, we think it is a Ford V8 block, te distributer is at the front rther than the back of the engine. When you punch it or fast acceleration, it misses and stutters,we have replaced the plugs, dist cap, rtotor arm and leads and no difference. Can anyone help, it is driving him crazy.

sounds like the accelerator pump on the carb isn't working. What carb you got on that engine and what year is it?

Its a Holley carb, that much I do know, the boat is a 1996 but I dont know what year the Engine is, the previous owner had it changed.

Thank you.

have a look at this link.

http://www.volvopentastore.com/CARBURETOR_2V/dm/*******.189402783--**********.685811146--store_id.366--view_id.312105

Is that it, 2 barrel carb?

Assuming all the fuel filters have been changed. If you pump the throttle can you see gas spraying into the carb?

I don't know too much about that carb. I noticed in the link I gave you there is a bulletin regarding the Power valve. If your not getting gas spraying when you pump the throttle, it's probably time for a carb rebuild.

I noticed there is are 2 kits number #2 in the link dealer only. I'm not sure if you need both kits or....

have a look at this. Here are the two kits

and

I think this is the accellerator pump diapham. #4 in the parts breakdown link. Could just try replacing that.

Let us know what happens. Maybe someone else has some other ideas as well.

Good Luck.

could be a four barrel. If thats the case you may be able to get model/serial numbers off of it and go to Napa and get parts for it that way. I didn't see a four barrel carb as an option in the parts breakdown but who knows. We really don't know what the previous owner may have put in there.

Like I said before, confirm the accelerator pump is working by pumping the throttle (boat not running) and see if it sprays gas into the carb.

As long as there is gas in the carb, it should squirt out when to throttle is pumped.

Decided he would order a new one. The old one was not in great shape.
