volvo penta sterndrive oil leak

hello out there, i am a new comer to this site. i have a 1985 volvo aq 125/270 that has started leaking oil from the stern drive, boat is in water and there is a small oil slick after i start it up. what i wanted to know is it a big job to remove stern drive to inspect seals? any replys would be an asset. thanks walt

You don't have to remove the sterndrive to check for leaks. You do have to get it out of the water and drain the gear lube. Then pressure check the drive to find the leak.

10 to 15 psi is what I use.
