Today I was driving my chaparral and all was good, however It started to make a rattling noise and then all of a sudden something came loose and the boat slowed to a stop. The engine was still running however when I revved the engine the boat would not move. Engine was still running smooth. I then turned off the engine, and once I tried to restart the boat the starter would spin, but not turn over the engine. The outdrive is still as smooth as can be and easily engages in and out of gear no problem. Any Suggestions?
after removing the dust cover on the bottom of the engine I can move flywheel and the engine does not move nor any pulleys, also the starter does not move the flywheel. Is it possible for the flywheel to have come loose?

The flywheel self-destructed, the flywheel -to- crankshaft bolts sheared, or
the end of the crankshaft broke off. Time to pull the motor.
