I have a volvo AQ151A engine & the power trim ddoes not operate. The motor runs but does not raise the lower unit. I think I need to add oil but don't know how. I don't see anything that can be removed to add it. There are two hex head bolts or screws on the top. Any suggestions

Re: Volvo Penta power trim pump oil

Jim.. I had a boat with a Volvo 271 and 290 Duoprop outdrive - so not sure if its the same tilt/trim pump.

Mine had a little screw-plug near the flat-top of the base. I would unscrew and fill almost to the top of the hole (allowing enough room to put the screw plug back in).

Do you have a model# on the pump. I still have my old one, the diaphram went out on it, so it would not hold the oil. I bought a new pump, then later heard that I could replace the diaphram for about $15.. oh well.

-David

Re: Volvo Penta power trim pump oil

I have a Volvo Penta Cobra SX and the Trim pump fluid resivior is located under the rear seat to the right of the engine (facing the engine from inside the boat). It is not easy to find and is typically put away from the engine. But once you locate it, there is a red plastic screw on the side of the pump. As David 1995 said, you back that plastic screw out and squeeze the appropriate power steering/trim fluid in until it comes just up to the bottom of the hole where the plastic screw was removed from. The screw takes a flat head screwdriver to remove. Make sure you don't bugger up the plastic screw when you remove it or you'll have to replace it. Hope that helps.
