Re: Volvo Penta Please help
im not a volvo person.
but its a motor.
bond-o is your guy.
no sound at all is good.
but well get back to that.
first, dont start this boat without doin some other stuff first.
impeller is one thing. even if you do get it running the impellers prob toast and if you start it youll overheat the motor and kill it. it needs to be changed.
first i would try to turn the crankshaft manually to see if it turns.
if yes continue.
if no ...get your gun ....and point it at the block ...and..
if the crank turns, and it made "no sound at all" with the key, you have a minor electrical prob. do you have a "kill switch"
if not, check the starter, see if its gettin power, thats prob where to look. clean the connections at the selinoid, look for corrosion..
check with a voltage meter right from the key to the starter.. found your prob... good. dont start it yet.
check all the little things, oil levels, are the muffs on, is the leg down?
pull the plugs and shoot a little motor oil down the holes. and turn the crank manually a few. (best is to pull the dist and spin the oil pump with a long flat tip drill bit on a drill.) but a few squirts of oil down the holes should be good.
hows the fuel? old... drain it and use new.
that should get it to crank.
if it now cranks and still doesnt start. check the iginition system. is the dist cap wet? points? wires? if that is all checked and still no fire in the holes.
pull #1 plug and double check to see if the spark is good. not weak.
if youve got spark, but no fire in the holes. its fuel. start checking that system.....
thoes tips should get you to where its cranking any how.
im not an expert by any means but that is how you start to trouble shoot.
the other guys here are FAR more knowlagable than i. so if bondo or tash tells you different, ignore me and do what they say.
good luck
