My fathers Bayliner has a Volvo Penta 270 outdrive on it. Last year the outdrive was taking in substantial amounts of water. We replaced the prop shaft seals and all seals at the lower gear housing seam. Its still leaking. Anything else we should look at? Thanks

Hi Sheephead,

I'm not an expert on Volvo's, but you should consider the upper unit. Since water is heavier than oil, the water will end up in the lower unit. Could be simple as the dipstick seal on the top of the unit.

Re: Volvo Penta Outdrive

There is a seal at the shifter yoke that is prone to leak ( there is a updated seal for it )Also have you had the drive off and checked the bellows ? The input shaft has just one seal to keep the oil in so if you have water in the bellows it will fill the drive up quite quickly. You should drain the oil and pressure and vacuum test the drive for leaks this is the best way to find the problem.
