volvo penta not pulling water

I have been trying to use muffs to pull in antifreeze to winterize my boat. When I put the muffs on with a hose running from the house spigot water flows through the engine and the engine does not over heat. When I put the end of the house in a bucket to pull the antifreeze, it does not pull the antifreeze out of the bucket.

I replaced the impeller and even removed the thermostat and it still will not pull from the bucket. I drained all the water out of the engine from every drain plug I could find then filled the engine with afreeze.

So why is the impeller not pulling the water or antifreeze from the bucket?

By the way, this is a VP 5.7Gi engine with a dpx outdrive.

thanks,
Pat

Too many air leaks around the muffs to do that. It will suck air first and not your antifreeze, besides, if you have a raw water cooled engine, you really don't want to run the AF in the engine with muffs.
Go up to the Adults only sticky and read the thread on winterizing with muffs.

Don,

I did read the post on Adults only section and do understand that draining verses earmuffs for winterizing is better. There was a post on here about blockage causing the water not to be pulled in through the impeller. I am a little worried that I might have a circulating pump problem or some other problem. Do you think it just from the muffs allowing it suck air?

Yea, that's why I said it.

Ayuh,...

The only way that'll work is if the bucket is Above the intake,+ is siphoning to the muffs,...
Aka. the hose has positive pressure, alibet, low, but still positive pressure...

Impeller pumps have to be flooded to push water, it's Not a Suction pump....

Dont forget...the water coming outta the house is also pressurized. ;)

P.s Trying to suck AF from a bucket (no matter where the bucket is) is also a good way to burn up your pump sir.
