I have a 280 outdrive w/ mechanical lift, after replacing the safety switch,it goes up and down and the light@control switch goes out at full down position.
Should the light go out at full up position too? I'm afraid I'll damage something
if I don't release lever at the point drive hits rubber stop. From the switch location i can't see the outdrive at all as it comes up.Also, if I blow a fuse
on lift I could manually release the drive an lift it for trailering but I don't see a catch to hold the drive up.Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Re: volvo penta mechanical lift question

There isn't a switch to stop it from going up, and the light is only there to indicate full down. You just have to watch and make sure you don't run it to long, or you can burn up the electric motor.

Volvo and probably some aftermarket companies make a bracket to hold the drive in the up position while trailering. Volvo part number 897824.
