What drive, what manual? As far as I know there isn't any gasket sealing compound used on the prop shaft seals.

Yea, that's what they call for. In school, they taught us to use red loctite on the outside of the seals for the propshafts. The seals are rubber coated and gasket sealer will make them slipery. A thin coat of red (271) Loctite holds them in place.
Never had any problems and have rebuilt many.
