Hi,

I have 2002 Fourwinn's 5.7 I/O. It has the external freshwater flush connection which BY PASSES THE WATER PUMP, and only flushes the block and manifolds. I understand this was a poor design and was corrected in later models. So with the engine running, you need to use a muffler flush on the out drive to get water to the pump impeller and thermostat. This was confirmed by the two impellers I fried before more carefully reading the owners manual.

I understand there is a way to reconfigure the water hoses so you can flush the complete engine, while it is running, from the external flush port. If so, how please?

Thanks,
John

It's called muffs, and it flushes the drive and oil cooler too.

So on a 2007 4.3GL it would be ok to use that flush hose and start the engine? What year did they fix the issue?

On my volvo outdrive the water intakes are located/shaped such that regular muffs don't work well. I think they make larger ones, but I had a T-fitting wth a check valve plumbed into the seawater line (before the oil cooler) with a hose fitting extended to the gunwale for easy access. Seems to work fine...With a few more fittings, could probably also turn it into an emergency bilge pump.

The OP does not have the same drive that you have. The water intakes are quite different. Regular muffs will work fine on his.
