I have a 1995 DP-C1 outdrive. I recently removed/rebuilt/replaced one of the hydraulic cylinders due to a rod seal leak. Now the trim gauge is off, and the trim-up cuts out at about 3 inches from full down. I have to use the tilt switch to trim the rest of the way up. Trim down works fine.

1) Is the trim system self bleeding, or should I bleed that cylinder more?
2) Where is & how can I adjust the trim limit switch?

#?s off the outdrive: 3102158428 & 386-8002

New member. Thanks for the help!

Re: Volvo Penta DP-C1 290 Trim/Tilt adjustment

You probably got the gear wheel and rack on the helmet out of sync. Download the OEM manual at the link below, Then use pages 154 and 159 to get back to where it should be.
Many times the mark on the gear wheel is missing. At that point, just put the drive all the way down. Then remove the plastic screw holding the rack in place and move them by trial and error till you get the -4 or -5 degrees on the gauge.
Each tooth on the rack is about 2?, so just get close to that by adjusting the rack. (page 154) then do the fine adjustment as shown on page 159 inside the boat.

Thanks. I tried to remove the lower plastic screw holding the rack, but it didn't back out the first time and I didn't want to cause another problem. There are no marks as you said.

Thanks again for your help, and download.
