Well snows melting time to start thinking boats again. So after the swap which went pretty good never made it to the lake to try it out but had her hummin' in the driveway. Had a little electrical snafu and still do I guess. I ran a new wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid on the starter and 12 foot piece of 16 guage wire will work to turn over the motor, so I went to tuck the wire away and spliced on another 6 foot piece with proper end connectors and nothing. Tried a full 18ft run and nothing but the 12 ft piece works fine?? Can't have that wire laying on the deck all summer, but to lengthen it to tuck it away, it won't do anything.
What the...???
Time for a new starter/solenoid? Or maybe switch?
It's your generic GM Small Block.

That additional 6 feet of wire causes the voltage to drop just enough that the solenoid won't work. There is still a measurable voltage drop on the 12 ft.

Use the wire to trigger a relay and the relay to trigger the solenoid.

Might be a sign the starters drawing too much juice? Have you had that checked recently. Just a thought. Good Luck with the boat!!

I too have an AQ260.
