I have a Volvo Penta AQ125A in a 1985 Bayliner that will not keep running. Bought the boat late last summer and did some mechanical repairs. Had it started once and then did more work on the boat and when we tried to start it again we had to keep pouring gas in the carburetor to keep it running. It seemed it was not getting gas to the carb. It was late in the season so winterized it and put it away. The boat had sat for a fairly long period without being started so wondering if gas that was in tank is bad and needs to be siphoned or if I need to work on carburetor or other parts of fuel system. I asked a mechanic and he just asked me how much money I wanted to spend. What should I check first?

If I need a carb kit where is the best place to get it and where can I find a good manual to follow.

Thanks.

If you are dumping gas down the carb to keep it running, then it is either bad gas in the tank or shot fuel pump. Drain and replace the fuel in the tank, then turn it over a few times, pump the throttle and look to see if fuel is being sprayed into the carb, no fuel, replace the pump with a marine rated one.

Have a great day,

Rob.
