Volvo Penta AQ125 Engine issues

I have a 1983 Bayliner Capri with the AQ125/270 unit. I have gotten everything running after sitting for 2 years with no work being done with it. I have replaced the fuel pump with a low flow electric one. Is this the correct type or do I need a high pressure one? After taking the carb apart and fixing a minor problem with the floater unit on the carb it runs fantastic in the drive way.

I took it out to the lake today and ran into a major problem. While running at about 3000 rpm or above the engine will start bobbing(the best thing I can describe it as) the rpms as if its trying to stall out for about 30 seconds or so then it will work fine for about 5 minutes or so and then it will start doing the same thing again. There is no pinging and while not under load I get crank it to the top end with no issues. I'm really not sure what is going on and would love some advice and maybe I'm doing something stupid that I shouldn't be.

I have an 82 with the same motor. The only thing I can think of is carb issues. or the timeing is just a tad out of wack.

well that's what I wondering. Either that or I have the incorrect electric fuel pump in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Krusty I am having the same prob on my 454. I have replaced the fuel pump with correct mechanical pump...filters..wires...plugs..ignition parts...guessing my proplem must be the carb. I can drop my boat in water and it may run great for 5 minutes then bogs down and somtimes stalls. I'm getting fuel up to the carb but seems like the carb only lets fuel in intermittingly. Stripped the carb down cleaned it out and same problem...now looking on here for other people with same problems with answers following...good luck, I'll be watching for answers roll in.
