Volvo Penta 8.1 gas down tubes

I thought had to replace the downtubes on my 8.1 gas Volvo. I looked at the port side unit and found that it was fine and didn't need to be replaced. The shop wouldn't take back the downtubes because Volvo wouldn't take them back (?). I put the new port side unit on and then decided there was no reason to replace the starboard side.
