I just purchased a 2012 Chaparral 226 with the Volvo Penta 5.7L 300hp V8 and wanted to ask if anybody knows why I read one level on one side of the dipstick and another on the other side when checking the oil level? The boat is level when I perform the check, either in the water, on the boat lift, etc...everytime I check the oil it reads low (near the bottom of the add mark) on one side and when I flip it over it reads high (at or above the top of the safe zone). I've also checked it cold and hot and warm and it all reads different on each side of the dipstick. I've also checked it and flipped the dipstick around and checked it again and then it does read high on both sides so I'm very confused and almost to the point of draining the oil and refilling to the recommended capacity in the manual - which is my next question since it tells me 6 qts. on top of the engine and 5 qts in the manual and the dealer said 5.7 - 5.8 qts - arrrghghhh! This is not how I wanted to start out with my new boat but figured I might get some help on this forum.
