Greetings all,
Looking for a few steps to troubleshoot an "engine won't start" issue. I have a Monterey with dual 2006 Volvo Penta 5.0 osi's. These engines are fuel injected, I believe GM throttle body. Starboard engine starts. Port engine doesn't start. The boat was sitting for about a year so I ran the motors with fresh gas from one of those 5 gal outboard tanks. I have verified the engine is producing spark. Checked the compression a while back and it was good. I removed the flame arrestor from the throttle body and sprayed starting fluid in it and the engine runs for 3 seconds and cuts off as expected. Seems that the engine isn't receiving fuel. I am new to the boat and noticed the starboard fuel pump assembly was changed so I changed the port fuel pump assembly so I believe it's all good but did not solve the problem. The fuel pump runs for 5 seconds or so when I press the ignition button. I was wandering what I should do next? I didn't check the the fuel regulator but I will do this next. I don't have a noid light but I can purchase one if this is a useful test. I did give the fuses in the junction box a slight check but could pull each and give it a detailed check. I read that it could be an ECU issue perhaps not having a good ground, I don't know if there is an easy way to verify this? I guess the noid light test will verify the ECU is working properly. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
