I looking to buy a 2006 glastron 249 (24'10") I'm trying to decide which engine. It come with a volvo penta 5.0 gxi-dp (270 h.p. fuel injected, duo-prop.) Would there be a big difference if I upgraded to the 5.7 gxi-dp? (315 h.p. fuel injected, duo-prop.)It would be about $4000 more.

Welcome to iboats :) If you can afford it I would go with the higher H.P.....That's a pretty good sized boat & extra H.P. never hurts....JK

45 more horsepower, and at least 30lb-ft more torque is almost always a good thing. Yeah, it's pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

When you take out people with you, never have too much HP. Big engine a 1/2 throttle gets better milage than one at 75-80 % of power. Resale-- big engine always pays back big time.----------my 19' with 220 hp 5.0 carb is perfect. 2.5 seconds to plane & 56 mph alone 50 with four. Worth same as I bought new in 2002. + NO triming of the drive is ever needed.

If you read these boards enough, you'll see a common gripe. "How do I get more speed out of my boat?" I have yet to read about someone complaining about too much speed. Yes, it costs money to go faster. Half the people with boats, think, "I'll get the smaller engine, save myself some money." Then, XX amount of time after they have the boat, "How do I get my boat to go faster?" Spend your money NOW. You'll never regret it.
