I just bought a 1992 Wellcraft Eclipse 197 with a Volvo Penta 4.3L engine. At first I started to notice intermitent electrical issues like the fuel gauge losing power, the radio working then not... However, last night while cruising at about 3,000 RPM, the engine quit. I tried to start again and got nothing. After jiggling the shifter back and forth sever time, the engine started right up ran for about 2 minutes, ran rough, then stopped again.

I had power to other accessories, but the engine would was out cold. All of the fuses are good.

I am thinking that it is an electrical issue, but I want to focus my effort. I may take this boat back to the seller. Any one know where to start?

I would pull apart the connection at the main harness plug at the engine & check for corrosion......
Once you have cleaned it up put some sealer to keep moisture out & put a S.S. clamp on it to keep it tight......
Welcome to iboats, btw.......:)

Harness is in perfect shape, shiny gold, absolutely no corrosion. Is there any type of kill switch on these engines to prevent the engine from starting while in gear? I have noticed I need to wiggle the throttle while in neutral to get the starter to turn over.

Yes, there is a neutral safety switch. Normally it's found on the the throttle shifter control at the helm, and has two yellow w/red stripe wires going to it.
