I have a 5 year old, very low hours Volvo Penta 4.3 GL in an 18' FourWinns Horizon. It has been serviced at reputable marinas each year, most recently at large FourWinns dealer for winterization, maintenance, and impeller replacement. It had been running great the first 3 or 4 times I took it out this year, then suddenly quit at about 1/2 throttle while pulling a tuber. The engine would turn over then die immediately the first few times I tried to restart. Priming the engine by pumping the throttle a couple times seemed to help initially in getting it to turn over, but it wouldn't even turn over on the last few restart attempts. The boat will not restart even after allowing it to rest for 10 mins, 2 hours, and 12 hours. The kill switch appears to be intact (though I haven't pulled/re-inserted). The gas tank is half full. The fuel pump fuse is ok. I tried to replace the fuel pump relay but was given the incorrect relay at the marina and haven't had an opportunity to exchange it. I'm planning on trying to replace the fuel filter next. The only unusual condition was the the operator (inexperienced) did not have the outdrive trimmed ideally so the bow was riding a bit high. The prop was not cavitating though, nor was the boat 'porpoising'. Does anyone have any other simple suggestions for someone not mechanically inclined before I haul the boat out and take it to the dealer? (a very inconvenient process on my lake). Any thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks!
