Hi all

I am in need of a few pointers and thought perhaps someone on here could shed some light.

I recently bought a 20ft Phantom with a 4.3 v6 volvo penta and duoprops.
The engine is running on LPG and Gas. I am not yet sure which exact model of engine it is as it was my first day out on it today. It was from 1990 and has a 4bbl carb on top. It has electronic ignition to replace the dizzy.
It has had LPG for over 4 years now and over 100hrs on this. It has a re-build in the engine 30 hours ago and today developed a rattle.

It seems to be coming form the back of the engine and perhaps the bell housing, but not sure. It is a sort of bottom end sound but sometimes it dissappears. it does it in and out of gear. On occasion it made a squeeking sound and as we crept to shore it got louder and louder..
We ran it for 2 hours before it went and it started during operation.

Removed the covers and all the valves are in still. When using a screwdriver (crude but effective) to see of it was a bottom end. The noise got louder towards the rear but wasnt louder on one or the other bank/side.

I am assuming i will have to pull the engine but any help in any direction or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would pull the upper gear box and run it befor pulling the engine. After pulling the gear box, check that the shaft in the bellhousing doesn't have any movement.
