I'm new to boating just bought first boat a month ago. Its a 1999 Four Winns with a Volvo Penta 4.3 carburated. Ran great until about a week ago. I was out on the water and all of a sudden I lost alot of power in the engine. It bogs down and at full throttle can only go about 2500rpm. Came home and changed the fuel filter, took it out and same thing, thought maybe water in gas, dumped fuel out put new in; same. Installed a new stock fuel pump and now it won't turn over. Not pumping fuel. Put in a new relay, checked that I had power going to the pump. The gas line is free and unclogged I was able to suck up gas myself. Distributer is also ok. I can't even hear the pump turn on when the key is in the ON position. If anyone has any advice and ideas I'd sure appreciate it.

Installed new stock fuel pump and it won't turn over?

What does that mean? Either you got the wrong pump and it is jamming the cam lobe or you knocked some wires off.

Is this electric pump? Recheck wires.

You original problem does sound like a fuel pump, however.

The pump won't turn on in the on position. It has to be cranking for it to turn on. My suggestion is to bypass the relay and apply power to the pump directly.

As far as 2500 limit, certain Volvo models have a S.L.O.W. mode that limits the engine to 2500 RPM if there is an overheat or low oil pressure condition. There are two switches on the engine that would detect these conditions.

What is your model number?

It is an electrical pump. According to the boat shop this is the right pump. Don't see any obvious wire issues.
