Volvo Penta 5.0 here…Re: Volvo Penta 3.0GL Warning Alarm
Purchased a 2004 Striper 1851 and ran it for the summer fishing. During winterization it started fine and then we got a warning alarm thus not allowing the boat to start or run. If I work the throttle by hand the boat will run so I know it is a warning alarm of some sort. I have checked all fuses on the boat and none are burned. Found the wire on the fuse bar that stops the alarm when we trace it back it looks it goes to to a relay of some sort. Can the relay go bad? Can it be tested? Any other suggestions for testing other possible warning alarms items? Is there a list of warning alarms for the Volvo Penta 3.0GL?
There are three warning alarms on a 3.0 Volvo. Block temperature, oil pressure, and exhaust manifold temperature. With the engine running, remove one at a time till the warning buzzer stops. Mine happened to be the block temperature.
When you run the motor, you should have a gauge that registers oil pressure, it should be around 40 or more. Mine happened to be the cooling system and overheating. The raw water pump impeller came apart and the mechanic did not bother to remove the old broken vanes from the system. They clog up the cooling system and will set off an alarm. However, it did not prevent the motor from starting and running.
My alarm only sounds after I go fast enough to plane…no other time.
And when it sounds, it comes on very slowly and progressively.
Oil pressure/levels good.
Electrical good.
The only gauge that doesn’t work is the speedometer.
Engine actually runs really well. As soon as I stop planing the alarm literally “fades” away.
Any help is greatly appreciated
