Hey guys,

My husband and I just bought a 2000 Stingray w/ a 3.0 Volvo Penta. It has not been used in 2 years. Is there anything that we need to do to ensure prime working condition. It seems a bit rough when it is ideling or cruising slowly.

I would give it a tune up, an oil change and a full drive service.
Don't know what service costs where you are but at the marina where I am service mgr the complete service would run about $600.00.

I highly recommend it to be serviced by a Volvo dealer. Preferably someone that has been in the business a long time. I can speak on behalf of my forty years of servicing Volvos. The $600 figure seems very high. My shop is about half that amount. You need to change all fluids, engine oil, filters, both oil and water and outdrive oil. Tune engine. Replace plug. Have an expert clean and repair carb. It has a two barrel holley. Your rough running is the economize valve in carb. Install a new Holley kit. Just a good tune up. You can buy a genuine Holley kit at most automotive parts dealers. This kit is found in the high performance section of Holley parts. Adjust engine to specs. If you have a question you can call me at 1-800-949-2189. Good luck.

Gene 70
Service is spendy in this area. Our labor rate is $99.00 per hour which is average in the area. Add to that the fact that we are on the water in the highest income area of the state so we don't discount parts prices.

BW17MT - Yes, the area has a lot to do with it. We are in the Pensacola, Fl area and the cost of living here is some of the lowest in the nation. It does make a difference. Maybe we are spoiled.
